Paying a high fee for Gym Membership?? Try ActiveSG

What’s healthy for your body, isn’t always so good for your wallet.

One of the big problems with gym memberships is that you’re locked in to pay a certain amount per month, usually over a long-term contract. This isn’t ideal if you regularly travel or don’t always have time to hit the gym.

Paying the full amount each month without being able to gym regularly feels like money down the drain.

That’s where ActiveSG’s pay-per-use model comes in, making you feel like you always get your money’s worth.

ActiveSG is an initiative to lower the barriers and promote the holistic adoption of a more active lifestyle for all throughout Singapore.

How do ActiveSG’s membership and fees work?

The most attractive thing about using ActiveSG is undoubtedly its pay-per-use model. This offers full flexibility and zero commitment for anyone who wants to use ActiveSG’s gym, swimming, or sports facilities.

Swimming pool access is charged in the same way at an individual rate. On the other hand, sports facilities are usually charged per court per hour.

Except for the gym facilities, the other facilities all have peak and non-peak rates.

Peak hours are between 6 to 10 PM from Mondays to Fridays and 7 to 10 AM on weekends and public holidays.

If you regularly go to the gym, getting a membership is the best value for money option. For example, a gym membership costs $30 per month for unlimited access. If you go to the gym more than 12 times, it’s already cheaper than paying each time. Unfortunately, this is only available for Singaporean citizens or PRs.

When registering for a membership, you’ll also receive S$100 of credits for free. This can be used for gym or pool admissions, programs and activities, or even to buy schemes.

How does it work?

ActiveSG membership is conveniently card and cash-free. You just download the app and register and you’ll have an ActiveSG account for life. You can then top up your MyCash wallet with up to S$200 and with a minimum of S$10 at a time.

Every time you use a gym or other ActiveSG facility, your wallet will automatically have the amount deducted.

What facilities do they have?

You might, understandably, concerned that there is something wrong with the facilities at ActiveSG. After all, you usually get what you pay for.

However, you should find all the basics at every ActiveSG for cardio and weight training.

For cardio at most gyms, you’ll find multiple treadmills as well as elliptical, cycling, and rowing machines. For resistance training, there is also a free weight training area with a complete set of weights, dumbbells, barbells, squat racks, etc. as well as cable and weight training machines.

For those into something more exciting, they also usually provide battle ropes, punching bags, and even swimming pools.

Not all gyms have all facilities, but the good news is that you can go to any gym you like. So, make sure to check out the specific gym beforehand so you know they have what you need.

Gyms also differ in size and the number of equipment they have.

ActiveSg is also so much more than a gym, and they also provide the following facilities:

  • Public pools
  • Badminton, tennis, squash, volleyball, basketball, and many other courts
  • Fitness programs for functional fitness, adults, kids, persons with disabilities, etc.
